无锡是国家历史文化名城，有文字记载的历史可追溯到3000多年前的商朝末年泰伯奔吴。无锡被誉为“教授之乡”，这里走出了顾恺之、徐霞客、钱钟书、徐悲鸿、华彦钧（阿炳）、王选等诸多名人，目前，无锡籍及在锡“两院”院士达103人。
